Dear Edgeboro Family & Friends,

In the last few issues of The Envoy, I’ve chosen three things to write about on the front page. Here are my three things this month: A reminder, a thing I learned this month, and a prayer.

(1) A Reminder

August comes and goes without nationally-recognized holidays, but it holds quite a few special days for Moravians. Please offer special prayers on the following days this month:

August 7 – Prayer Day for World Peace
August 13 – The 295th anniversary of the Renewal of the Moravian Church in Herrnhut, Germany
August 21 – The 290th anniversary of the first Moravian mission to St. Thomas
August 28 – Prayer Day for Public Education

(2) A Thing I Learned This Month

The thing I learned this month isn’t directly connected to anything church-related, but rather it’s about the earth. What I learned made me marvel at God’s creation, and because it made me do that, I suppose it is church-related.

So here’s what I learned from a podcast that was recently introduced to me by a church member called Dear Hank & John: I learned that all the bacteria in the world outweigh all of the animals in the world by a factor of 35. Multiple online sources say that scientists estimate there are 5 million trillion trillion bacteria on earth, which is 5 with 30 zeros after it. There’s far more bacteria on the earth than there are stars in the universe. If God’s creation is this complex, how complex must God be? And yet, the God of the universe chooses to be known by each of us, chooses to abide with us, and chooses to be involved and care about our lives. It’s humbling when you stop and think about it. This is the God we worship!

(3) A Prayer

As you read this, camping seasons around the Moravian Church Northern and Southern Provinces are nearing an end. We have some incredible people in our camping programs – volunteers, staff, and campers. Please support, encourage, and pray for them, especially in this time when they’re coming off of incredible weeks, riding a “camp high,” ready to make a difference in their corner of the world, having been embraced by unique weeklong communities of love. (Please support, encourage, and pray for our camp facilities too!)

In three greater things – Faith, Love, and Hope,
Pastor Dan
