Dear Edgeboro Friends & Family,

Lent, a season for reflection and preparation, is underway. This is a time to intentionally rid ourselves of distractions and recalibrate ourselves to continue following Jesus. In order to do this, we take special opportunities during Lent to be together, study, and change our routines. Here are some things to plan ahead for:

Make time to attend our Lenten Dinners & Series each Wednesday during Lent from 6:00- 8:00pm (March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29). A different church group will be providing dinner for everyone each week. Our series this year is called Bookin’ It. The Bible isn’t often considered a “quick read,” however a large portion of the books of the Bible (40%) can be read in 20 minutes or less. Each week during this series, the primary thing we’re going to is read (at least) one short book of the Bible together. While what books we’re going to read will be a surprise each week, know that there’s a good chance we’ll read things that aren’t too familiar to us! (The series will also be livestreamed at 7:00pm each week on Facebook and YouTube.)

Take another opportunity in practicing generosity by giving an extra Lenten gift to the church by using the special Lent envelope enclosed with this newsletter, or give online, or make a special effort to give to our partners in ministry like Northeast Community Center, the Board of World Mission, or another organization of your choosing.

Try participating in something new around the church for the first time, or try a new spiritual practice like reading a daily devotional, taking time for meditation, silence, or short walks.

Plan to attend services during Holy Week. If you haven’t done it before, try following along through all of the Holy Week Readings. Here’s the worship schedule: (All services will be livestreamed too.)
Palm Sunday, April 2, 10:30am (Confirmation Sunday, Holy Week Readings)
Monday-Wednesday, April 3-5, 7:00pm (Holy Week Readings)
Maundy Thursday, April 6, 7:00pm (Communion, Holy Week Readings)
Good Friday, April 7, 2:30pm (Holy Week Readings) & 7:00pm (Worship)
Great Sabbath (Saturday), April 8, 7:00pm (Lovefeast)
Easter Sunday, April 9, 6:00am (Sunrise at Central Moravian), 10:30am (Worship)

This list certainly doesn’t contain all of the opportunities we have to make changes to our routines to help us recalibrate, but I hope it gets us thinking about what we each can do to make Lent even more meaningful.

May you be blessed in your planning, creativity, and openness to try new things in this season of Lent.

Recalibrating with you,
Pastor Dan
