Dear Edgeboro Friends & Family,

Whoever said summer was any less busy than any other time of the year? For the record, I did not! As I write this, it’s less than a week out from the end of VBS (June 11-15^th) A week later and Provincial Synod comes (June 21-25). Then comes Senior High Camp at Camp Hope (July 7-14), and a week after that, vacation (July 22-27).

It’s no different here at Edgeboro this summer! Here are just a few highlights:

• After over a month of research and multiple consultations, the Trustees learned that the church’s 21-year-old boiler was leaking water. This caused the boiler to fail multiple times over this past winter. Because of the severity of the problem, the entire boiler and the piping in the boiler room must be replaced before the next heating season. The total cost of the project is $30,500. The Trustees approved the use the church’s endowment fund to pay for the project. The installation will take about a week and will be done in early July.
• A smaller, yet still important project that will be done over the summer is the repair of the flooring on some of the staircase landings. After years of use, the adhesive is giving way, causing the tiles to crack and break loose. New black tile will be installed in those places.
• The Ice Cream Festival is set for Monday, August 20^th. More details are included in this newsletter.
• Two outdoor worship services are scheduled – July 15^th and August 19^th.
• A special 4-week worship series has been scheduled for the Sundays of July 29^th – August 19^th. This series will focus on the sacraments – two weeks on Baptism and two weeks on Holy Communion – in order to look at God’s gifts to us more closely and to serve as a reminder of why we do what we do.
• A new opportunity has come to Edgeboro from Moravian Theological Seminary. The seminary is relaunching an international Moravian student program. In this program, the seminary will be providing tuition, housing, and healthcare costs for an international student to complete a degree program. For each student, the seminary would be looking for a congregation to partner with them to cover grocery and other extra living expenses (since students are not allowed to work off-campus on a student visa), provide transportation, and, perhaps most importantly, serve as a social network for the student. The first student accepted into this seminary program is the Rev. Paul Andrew Silwamba. Paul is a Moravian pastor from Zambia looking to receive a Master’s Degree in Theological Studies (a 2-year degree program). The Joint Board is excited to announce that beginning at the end of August, Paul will be a part of the Edgeboro family throughout his time as a student in America. We need help in organizing our efforts to support Paul while he is here.
